The Group on Interactive Coding of Images (GICI, http://www.gici.uab.cat) within the Department of Information and Communications Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, Spain) has an opening position for a post-doctoral fellow in the field of Image Coding. We are looking for a talented and motivated post-doc. The position is initially offered for 6 to 12 months.

Description: The work will be carried out within the context of the project "Interactive coding and transmission of high-resolution images. Applications in Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems, and Telemedicine". The project is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.

The successful candidate shall be able to work on a subject related to this context.

Position: The Group on Interactive Coding of Images offers a creative environment, a possibility to conduct competitive research on a global scale, and involvement in teaching and in the guidance of PhD students. Within the project, there will be opportunities to cooperate with some of the best groups in Europe and elsewhere.

UAB is located in a beautiful setting 15 kilometers away from the city of Barcelona (Spain). UAB provides a diverse and stimulating scientific environment. An infinite amount of cultural stimulation is only a 20 minute train ride away, in Barcelona City.

Salaries are in the range from EUR 18000 to 25000 per year, the precise amount to be determined by UAB's department of human resources.

Ideally, starting date for this position will be around September 2008

Education: Applicants are expected to have finished, or be about to finish their Ph.D. degrees, to have strong mathematical background, and to have a track record of publications in top data/image/signal compression conferences and journals. Strong programming skills (C, C++, or Java) are a plus.

Good communications skills, both written and oral, and fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
