1ST UNIVERSITY OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY STUDENT CONGRESS
The UNESCO Chair took part in the round table titled The Contribution of the University of the Basque Country to the Action Plan for the 2030 Agenda, held in the Pharmacy Faculty in Vitoria-Gasteiz during the inaugural day of the 1st University of the Basque Country Student Congress, which took place on October 24th and 25th.
The session presented the various UNESCO Chairs which are attached to the University of the Basque Country (UBC) and the projects which the Chairs run in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the main purpose of the UNESCO-UBC Chairs is research and dissemination of knowledge throughout society, given they are university institutions. Above all, the UNESCO Chairs have proven crucial to promoting (among others) SDG 17 on creating partnerships to achieve the Goals. Research by the Chairs is used to inform decision-making in several public administrations. Applied research generates knowledge which feeds into decision-making and guides public policy towards sustainable development.
