Design of parallel manipulators

If we compare serial and parallel manipulators, we see that parallel manipulators have advantages and disadvantages. But before noting them, we have to note that serial and parallel manipulators are not competitors in the market: both have their own market niche. To decide which type of manipulator is best for a specific application, we first have to
know the requirements that the manipulator should fulfil for that particular application. One of the advantages of parallel manipulators over serial manipulators is an excellent load/weight ratio. The reason is that the closed-loop kinematic chains distribute the payload between the different limbs that connect the fixed platform with the end-effector. Additionally, parallel manipulators have a higher stiffness all over the workspace. […] Read more >>

Computational mechanics

CompMech group works on design methodologies, dimensional synthesis, solving the position problems for motion simulation, velocities and accelerations computation, detection of singular positions, motion pattern of the platform, workspaces for every assembly mode and stiffness and frequency mapping in the workspace. In particular a deeper research is done in lower mobility manipulators […] Read more >>

Protein simulation

The discovery of the human genome was a milestone in the study of genetics, especially in the area of proteins. The human genome provides unique working tool, providing the opportunity of coming across new proteins and therefore obtaining information about the biological processes that take place within each cell. Proteins are one of the most important chemical compounds of living beings because they participate in most of the functions necessary for life. One of the most important topics within the proteins research is the study and collection of protein structures and the possible movements this structures can  […]  Read more >>
