Chillida Leku is located on the outskirts of Hernani near San Sebastián and comprises a sculpture park and an exhibition space inside the converted caserío Zabalaga, a traditional Basque country house dating from the sixteenth century.
Founded by Eduardo Chillida during his lifetime, it is home to the most comprehensive body of works by the artist. Since first opening in 2000, this museum dedicated to Eduardo Chillida has upheld its mission to promote and conserve his work.

Job profile:
Based in Chillida Leku, as Art Handler you will work closely with the Exhibition Coordinator and report directly to the Registrar Team. You will work mostly as a team with the Senior Art Handler to install works of art in the permanent and temporary exhibition areas, to pack works for transport and to ensure the safe storage and processing of works of art.
As a member of the Registration team undertake handling, installation, packing and unpacking of art objects and ensure that the Museum collection, and all art objects in the temporary custody of the Museum (exhibitions, acquisitions and loans) are handled, displayed and stored to current museum standards.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

– Assist with the documentation of works of art, including initial reception and condition reports.
– Assist in the unloading, transportation and delivery of works of art, exhibition equipment and associated materials.
– Installation and maintenance of permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Support Registrar with:

– Storage of art works
– Shipments
– Art work deliveries
– Compilation of manuals
– In-House and External Photography

Support the Facility Manager with:

– Security systems and relationship with suppliers and out of hours key holders
– Fire/Life safety systems and procedures
– Lighting and temperature control systems and relationship with suppliers
– Event and rental needs as necessary

Requirements:

– Knowledge and practical experience of safe manual handling, installation and storage of a range of works of art preferably within a museum environment
– Proven ability to work on several projects simultaneously and prioritise activities to specific deadlines
– Demonstrated skills in the maintenance of accurate records in manual and computer based formats Knowledge and skills in the use of museum collection management software would be an advantage
– This position requires a high level of manual dexterity
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
– Fluent in English, Spanish and Euskera

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
