Description

Our Research Group deals with the study of the pathobiology of pathogenic microorganisms that cause important diseases in humans, as well as innocuous microorganisms. The studies are approached using the new technologies included in the term "omics", which include genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and immunomics, among others. We are currently working on several research lines, all of them interconnected and sharing the innovative technologies used. Thus, we try to better understand the biology of these microorganisms, their pathogenicity, and their interactions with the host with the aim of developing new diagnostic techniques or treatments to detect and combat them.

Lines of Research

  1. Study of the pathogenesis of infections caused by the genus Aspergillus and its main pathogenic species A. fumigatus.
  2. Development of rapid molecular techniques to detect invasive fungal disease (IFD).
  3. Identification of antigens of diagnostic interest for the detection and monitoring of Scedosporium/Lomentospora with the aim of developing a new serological diagnostic method.
  4. Study of the effect on tumor and metastatic development of the main microorganisms causing nosocomial infections.
  5. Environmental studies of the fungal presence and its antifungal resistance.
  6. Study of the resistance mechanisms of the emerging pathogenic fungus Candida auris and their effect on virulence.
  7. Development of new molecular and serological diagnostic systems for SARS-CoV-2.
