The molecular spectroscopy group works in the search, development and characterization of organic dyes and photoactive materials that can be used as active means of tunable lasers or fluorescent probes with red and stable emission for bioimaging, or as photosensitizers of singlet oxygen in photodynamic therapy or teragnosis. In addition, thanks to the new molecular simulation capabilities of solid systems, the photophysical properties of the materials developed and of structural materials such as cement, aiming at greater energy efficiency, are studied.

The group belongs to the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country and has a journey of more than 40 years of existence. At the moment it is formed by 12 professors and investigators.
