Profile for admission
The doctoral programme is aimed at people who are interested in one or more of the Programme's lines of research related to Philosophy, Cognitive Science, and Science and Technology studies.
It is firstly aimed at people with an access qualification in Philosophy, and secondly at any students and professionals with qualifications in other fields. In the case of the latter, and with the approval of the programme's Academic Commission, they will be required to complete an additional number of credits in official master's degrees in Philosophy or in master's degrees related to the line of research that is intended to be followed in the Programme.
The FCV/FZB doctoral program distinguishes between different entry profiles, with the possibility of requiring the completion of up to 17 ECTS training credits in post-graduate studies in philosophy. This supplementary training will preferably consist of subjects from the Official Inter-University Master's Degree in Philosophy, Science and Values (UPV/EHU-UNAM) and, in any case, will not be regarded as activities constituting training activities of the Doctoral Program.The diversity of the supplementary training required is established below, in accordance with the entry profile in each case:* Students accrediting a master's qualification in Philosophy. Supplementary training required: none.* Students accrediting a master's qualification in Human or Social Sciences. Supplementary training required: the Academic Committee of the FCV/FZB Doctoral Program will require the completion of up to 11 credits of supplementary training in Philosophy master's degree studies.* Students accrediting a master's qualification in Experimental and Health Sciences or technical qualifications. Supplementary training required: the Academic Committee will require the completion of between 11 and 17 ECTS credits of supplementary training in one or more Philosophy master's degree courses.In general, the Academic Committee may require candidates who do not accredit training or experience in research methodologies to undergo specific supplementary training in subjects like the "Research Workshop" in Philosophy master's degree courses or the completion of supervised research work.The doctoral students may complete the required supplementary training during the first year of the doctorate if they study full-time. Those who study part-time may take the courses during the first two years.
The evaluation criteria for admission are:Academic record: 40%Research experience (publications, conferences, projects, master's thesis, etc.): 10%Knowledge of English: 10%Knowledge of other languages: 10%Participation in mobility programs: 10%The suitability of the candidate's CV for the program and a written expression of interest (including an explanatory letter detailing his or her interest in the program and an outline of the line of work to be conducted). Similarly, one or more letters of reference from a researcher from any university or research centre may be provided: 20%.If necessary, the Academic Committee of the FCV/FZB Doctoral Program may invite candidates to a personal interview in order to assess their interest in research, their availability and the suitability of their CVs to the objectives and lines of research of the doctorate.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
