Description

These are intensive residential seminars lasting a week. They are conducted in English in an inter-disciplinary and multicultural environment. Forty researchers from each university, in their second year of doctoral training, receive extensive training designed for their future vocational integration in a socio-labour environment not exclusively linked to research at universities and/or public and semi-public centres. All the activities are dynamised by personnel specializing in the organization of doctorials and the facilitation of teamwork. The scheduled activities include visits to companies, research centres and cultural entities selected from both sides of the border, the testimonies of executive doctors and entrepreneurs and teamwork for the joint preparation of an innovative project which will be submitted at the end of the encounter. Participation in the doctorials is optional and does not entail any enrolment fee. All the maintenance, accommodation and transport costs will be financed by the organizing universities, with the help of the funding obtained from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Aquitaine-Euskadi cooperation fund of the Basque government.

Results

The doctoral students acquire practical training in communication, innovation, teamwork, leadership and entrepreneurship. Based on the testimonies and experiences of different professionals working in companies and associations in the field of culture and language, as well as visits to companies and associations, the students come into direct contact with professional experience. These seminars have an inter-disciplinary approach, grouping the students together in units which combine different universities of origin and areas of knowledge. The experience should provide a wealth of knowledge about how to articulate a future professional project both in and outside the University.

Assessment systems

The whole procedure for the doctorials is overseen by a pedagogical cabinet, with professional advisers who will provide continuous feedback on the group activity and monitor the work done every day by the doctoral students. Once the latter have enrolled for the doctorials, attendance and active participation in the sessions is compulsory.

Description

Take part in conferences, both as an attendee and speaker (spoken presentation or poster).

Results

Know about the latest research in the field and connect with renowned researchers who could guide candidates in their research. Make research results known and receive criticism and advice on how to improve. Improve candidates¿ ability to publish their own research results. The skills developed through this activity will depend on how the doctoral candidate takes part: as an attendee, the competences would be CB14, CA5. If a presentation is given, the competences would be CB12, CB13, CB15, CA04, CA06.

Assessment systems

Presentation of a certificate of attendance, and, in the case of participants taking part as attendees, a written report on the content and significant advances.

Description

The following activities are planned under this scheme: - the Programme's Academic Committee will publish opportunities for doctoral candidates to conduct research placements offered by university groups and external centres. - Information relating to support for research placements and doctorates under joint supervision at universities and reference centres will be made available on UPV/EHU¿s School of Masters¿ and Doctorates web page. In all cases the Doctoral Programme Academic Committee will be responsible for approving any proposed placements. This proposal must include the following information as a minimum: - candidate who will go on the placement - objectives of the placement. - destination university or centre. - proposed period. - contact member of staff at the destination centre.

Results

Discussion of the specific areas of their research, as well as knowledge of other research groups. This is a comprehensive activity and by its very nature should serve to improve all competencies on the programme, but it would likely have a more direct impact on CB14, CB15, CA01, CA04, CA05.

Assessment systems

The thesis supervisors will be in charge of monitoring based on the following deliverables: - Certificate for carrying out the doctoral placement. - Publications or joint papers/presentations deriving from the placement. - For doctoral placements for a period of more than 3 months at overseas universities or centres, an international thesis proposal.

Description

Group meetings, according to lines of investigation or grouped by direction, to present all doctoral candidates¿ research results and discuss the validity of the different focuses and proposals. Those participating in the various sessions will show the content of their work to the rest of the group and lead a discussion.

Results

Training in the presentation of research results, as well as receiving criticism and advice from fellow candidates with respect to their work. Acquire skills in critical analysis in light of the subject matters presented by fellow researchers.

Assessment systems

Each doctoral candidate¿s tutor/supervisor will write a report on the candidate¿s participation in the Workshop, addressing the following criteria: a) Grade for the presentation of results; b) Ability to argue the defence of their work in the face of potential objections; and c) Capacity to discuss other works presented in the Workshop.
