Profile for admission
The priority profile for admission is that of graduates in language studies or similar bachelor's degrees who have taken a master's degree related to classical or modern languages, literary theory or comparative literature.
Those who have completed the UPV/EHU university master's degree in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies can be admitted directly.
Candidates coming from other master's degrees, in particular those related to Linguistics, Philology, Translation and Interpreting, or Philosophy, may also access this doctoral programme.
The Doctoral Program in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies does not require any supplementary training.However, bearing in mind that the above program can be accessed by graduates with graduate's degrees or higher, with at least 300 ECTS credits, whose studies may not have included any specific content in research training, the Academic Committee of the Program will consider the admission of each individual student, depending on the entry profile and on the need to acquire the above research training.The training will be acquired by means of the completion of up to 6 ECTS credits from official master's degrees offered by the UPV/EHU in the area of the Theory of Literature, classical and modern literatures, Philology and any other equivalent training in terms of research skills, for which the student will enrol upon the advice of his or her tutor or thesis director, once he or she has enrolled on the doctoral program.
Generally speaking, access and admission to the doctoral teaching will be governed by the provisions of articles 6 and 7 of Royal Decree 99/2011 of 28 January, regulating official doctoral teaching, and by the Doctorate Management Regulations of the UPV/EHU, approved by the Governing Council.Moreover, the Academic Committee will study with particular attention the students' academic records in order to assess whether it is necessary to advise or require them to complete any supplementary training, depending on the lines of research and the doctoral thesis projects the students propose to follow.It will be considered an additional merit for admission to the Doctoral Program to have the prior express commitment of a professor of the Doctoral Program as tutor/advisor of the student.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
