Graduated in Physics (1996) and Doctorate in Physics (2000) at the UPV/EHU. He made a post-doctoral stage in the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (2001-2002) and continued his research trajectory at the UPV/EHU (2003-2005). He obtained a Ramón y Cajal research contract (2006-2009) and became assistant professor in 2010 at the Applied Physics Department.



His research focuses on the study of planetary atmospheres. He has also investigated the formation of the Solar System and the Giant planets. He has co-authored more than a 100 research papers including publications in high-impact in journals such as Nature or Science. He has been co-I in the VIRTIS instrument in the Venus Express mission of ESA and is co-I in the MEDA instrument in the Mars 2020 NASA mission. He has also participated in the data analysis of a large variety of space missions (Voyager, New Horizons, Mars Express, Galileo and Cassini). In 2018 he received the prize: “Javier Gorosabel in Proam collaborations in Astrophysics” awarded jointly by the Spanish Astronomical Association and the Federation of Spanish Astronomical Associations.



His research trayectory is paralleled by an intense work in scientific outreach. He has given a large number of conferences on astronomical topics and has participated in more than a hundred radio programs. He is also coauthor of several articles in outreach journals.
