Profile for admission
It is recommended that people admitted in the Doctoral Programme in Forensic Analysis have proven experience in the scientific/technological or biomedical fields. It is preferable if they have abilities related to any of the four main blocks in which the research groups in the Programme are structured: analysis of chemical evidence, analysis of physical evidence, analysis of biological evidence or analysis of anthropogenic evidence.
The following degrees or similar qualifications are specifically recommended: Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Criminology, Medicine, Dentistry.
Among the recommended master's degree studies, despite their disparity, we may include those studied at the UPV/EHU or at any other national or international university that provides the minimum skills to enable the applicant to follow this study course.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of Royal Decree 99/2011 of 28 January, regulating official doctoral teaching, the Doctoral Program may include the requirement to undergo specific supplementary training.Students from the bachelor's degrees listed below who have also completed a master's degree do not need to perform any supplementary training: Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, Science and Food Technology, Environmental Sciences, Medicine and Criminology.Since the entry profiles for the Doctoral Program in Forensic Analysis include numerous areas of knowledge, it is extremely difficult to envisage all the profiles which may be submitted, including those with foreign qualifications. Therefore, the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Forensic Analysis may propose, in the cases in which entry profiles different from those mentioned above are detected, the necessary supplementary training in the subjects offered in the program for the Master's Degree in Forensic Analysis of the UPV/EHU or any other master's degree covering such subjects. Three subjects for achieving these objectives are proposed, from which the student must obtain 4.5, 6 or 7.5 ECTS credits, at the discretion of the Committee, titled "Use and Abuse of Medicines and Drugs", "Forensic Toxicology" and/or "Introduction to Forensic Genetics".
The criteria for the evaluation of merits will be as follows:The applicant must obtain 60 out of 100 points - Academic record, including the master's degree: 40 points - Profile of the master's degree studied: 25 pointsThe maximum score will be achieved by master's degrees whose training program is related to the areas of Forensic Analysis, Genetics, Genetic Anthropology, Legal and Forensic Medicine, Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Physical-Chemical Techniques, Molecular Biology, Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Entomology, Food Quality and Safety, Pharmacology, Criminology, Environmental Science and Painting. The Academic Committee will consider master's degrees with training programs related to other areas of knowledge.In the cases of bachelor's degrees providing access to doctoral programs without the need to study a master's degree (Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry), this section will be marked with the highest score. - Scientific training: 10 points - Publications: 10 points - Conference papers: 5 points - Other merits: 10 points (other languages (French, German), other qualifications, collaboration grants, master's degree grants)

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
