Profile for admission
The following candidates can access the official doctoral program in Pharmacology:
(1) Students with official Spanish bachelor's degrees, or equivalent, and the master's degree in Pharmacology titled Development, Evaluation and Rational Use of Medicines or a master's degree with 60 credits in biomedical sciences. In the latter case the doctoral committee, after analysing the candidate's CV and a detailed summary of the completed studies, will establish specific supplementary training which must be completed before the defence of the doctoral thesis.
(2) Graduates in Medicine or Pharmacy who, after obtaining a place on a specialized medical training course (MIR or FIR) in the corresponding access test, have successfully completed at least two years of training on a program for the obtaining of an official qualification in any of the specialities of Health Sciences.
Students with bachelor's or master's degrees without subjects related to pharmacology must complete courses in which they acquire basic skills in pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, clinical trials, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenetics before the end of the second year of the doctorate. These skills can be acquired by completing the courses titled Pharmacological Targets with 3 credits and Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Drug Monitoring with 4.5 credits which are taught within the master's degree in Pharmacology titled Development, Evaluation and Rational Use of Medicines.
The following merits will be assessed:-The CV. This will be worth 20%. Value will be given to educational background, work experience, knowledge of languages (except English), courses completed and other activities.-The academic record. This will be worth 15%. The marks will be valued and averaged, taking into account the number of credits for each subject.-Previous research experience. This will be worth 15%. Value will be given to stays at research centres.-A personal interview. This will be worth 20%. Value will be given to the degree of motivation and the level of expression in the discourse.-Suitability of the previous studies to the program. This will be worth 15%. Value will be given to the area of knowledge in which the bachelor's and master's degrees obtained by the candidate are included.-Knowledge of English. This will be worth 15%. Level B1 accreditation will obtain 50%, B2 level will obtain 75% and C1 and C2 levels will obtain 100% of the maximum score corresponding to the section.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
