Profile for admission
In order to be admitted in this doctoral programme, candidates will be required to have studied a degree course or have completed a master’s degree, although students who have the master’s degree in Psychodidactics Psychology of Education and Specific Didactics will always take precedence. Should more applications be received than there are places on the programme, access will be granted in the following order of priority:
- Candidates who have studied the master’s degree in Psychodidactics Psychology of Education and Specific Didactics.
- Candidates who have completed a master’s degree in the area of Social Sciences at the UPV/EHU.
- Candidates who have completed a university master’s degree and a degree related to psychology, pedagogy or specific didactics. Candidates who have studied a diploma course must have completed at least 300 credits.
- Candidates who have studied the master’s degree in Secondary Education must complete additional training in the master’s degree in Psychodidactics: Psychology of Education and Specific Didactics.
In all cases, each individual student’s report will be studied to assess their suitability. Likewise, it will be considered an additional asset if the application is endorsed by a person who may direct the student’s thesis and who forms part of the doctoral programme.
- Data analysis and evaluation of measuring instruments (3 credits)- Design and method in psycho-didactic research (3 credits)- Course on information tools and resources for the doctorate (1.2 credits)- Seminar on research into psycho-didactics

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
