XSL Content

This program does not establish any specific supplementary training. However, bearing in mind that access is open to graduates with graduate's degrees or higher, with at least 300 ECTS, whose studies may not have included specific research or research methodology training contents, the Academic Committee of the program will decide on the need of each student, depending on his or her entry profile, to acquire this research training. The training will be acquired by means of a research work equivalent to a master's thesis worth 15 ECTS credits from among the official master's degrees offered by the UPV/EHU in the area of psychology, social sciences and/or health sciences, and/or any other equivalent training as regards research skills, which the student will complete, advised by his or her tutor or thesis director, once he or she has enrolled on the program.
The Programme has limited positions for new annual admissions and, therefore, the Academic Committee selects candidates during the pre-registration stage by assessing the following merits: -Academic records and the affinity of the training to the scope of the doctoral program (40%). Priority will be given to the degree or bachelor's degree in Psychology and related disciplines in the area of Health and Social Sciences (to be assessed in each case by the C.A.P.D.). Research experience: -Master's thesis (quality, affinity and number of credits), participation in research projects, scientific journals, visits, conferences (20%). -Presentation of the research project: work defining the background and objectives of the project signed by the candidate and the professor of the program who will supervise the doctoral thesis (30%). - Accredited level of English, at least adequate level of reading proficiency (10%). In order for the committee to evaluate the criteria of affinity and quality of the Master's thesis and research experience, candidates are required to attach the corresponding documentation. The part-time positions will be allotted according to the justification presented for pursuing the thesis in that category.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director

Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.

Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.

If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.

Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP.  New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
