Regulations Governing the Management of Doctoral Studies

Article 1. Definition.

  1. The term ‘Doctoral programme’ refers to all activities leading to acquisition of the competences and abilities required to obtain a doctorate. The purpose of the programme is to develop the different study aspects applying to doctoral students and it shall establish the procedures and areas of research under which they write their PhD theses.

  2. Doctoral programmes may be organised by the University of the Basque Country (from here on UPV/EHU) alone, or jointly by several universities; it may entail collaboration, under an agreement, with other public or private, Spanish or overseas, bodies, centres, institutions and organisations acting in the area of research development and innovation (RDI).

  3. The doctoral studies shall in all cases conclude with the preparation, defence and approval of a PhD thesis setting out the original findings obtained in the student’s research.
