Manoli Igartua Olaechea

Curriculum vitae

Manoli Igartua Olaechea (b. Irura, 1970) holds a Bachelor’s degree (1993) and a PhD (1998) in Pharmacy from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She is currently Full Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Vitoria-Gasteiz. She holds 4 six-year research periods and one knowledge transfer term recognised by the CNEAI plus 4 five-year teaching periods, and is rated as Excellent under the Docentiaz programme. Her research focuses mainly on micro- and nano-encapsulation of biotechnology products for application in various therapeutic fields such as tissue regeneration, vaccine development and diseases of the central nervous system.  She is a member of the NanoBioCel consolidated research group and the IdoFar specialist teaching innovation group, which is accredited as an IKD (Structured Teaching Team). She has co-directed 13 PhD theses. She has taken part in 46 research projects, 26 R&D contracts with pharmaceutical companies and 4 teaching innovation projects. She has also co-authored over 100 scientific papers, 5 patents, 2 books and 6 book chapters. She has completed research stages at the University of Aston in Birmingham and the University of Angers. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Ciber-BBN Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nano-medicine consortium, which depends on the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Spanish Government. She has also represented UPV/EHU at the European Technology Platform on Nano-medicine – ETPN Association (2016-2018).

She has held the posts of Vice-Dean for Supervised Internships at the Faculty of Pharmacy (2012-2017) and Dean of the said Faculty (2017-2021).
