Title: PIFG22/62 ”Electric mobility“

Job description: Within the research line "Microgrids, Electric Vehicles and SmartGrids" of the GISEL research group (www.ehu.eus/gisel), work and research are being carried out in the field of electric vehicles, the batteries associated with said vehicle, as well as electric mobility based on the hydrogen energy vector. The tasks to be carried out by the candidate will mainly consist of:

- Theoretical and experimental analysis of lithium-ion batteries and PEM-type hydrogen cells, for their application in electric mobility. Characterization.

- Design and implementation of DC/DC converters to optimize power flow in both batteries and PEM cells.

- Modeling of previous devices.

- Development of an optimal control strategy, based on new algorithms.

- Validation of results.

- Preparation of publications.

Requirements: Master in Industrial Engineering (Electrical Intensification), Master in Engineering in Automation and Industrial Electronics, Master in Electrical Engineering, Master in Electronic Engineering, Master in Renewable Energies in the Marine Environment (before March 2023). English language

We Offer: Full-time annual pre-doctoral contract to carry out a research project and doctoral thesis. Renewable up to a maximum of 4 years. The gross salary for the first year is €24,363 for the year 2023. Additionally, you will have access to all the services offered by the University (Sports, Cultural Activities, Library, etc.).

Title: Development of protection systems for DC grids with electrolysers.

Directors: Araitz Iturregi and Marene Larruskain.

Description of work: Within the research line "Integration of renewable energies in the electricity system, FACTS and HVDC" of the GISEL research group (www.ehu.eus/gisel), a research project is being developed on the protection of DC grids with electrolysers. The tasks to be performed by the candidate will consist of the analysis of multiterminal DC grids where electrolysers are interconnected with other generation and storage assets. Identification of the requirements that the protection system must meet to protect these networks, as well as the appropriate protection strategies. Definition of a protection system considering fault detection and location algorithms.

Requirements: Master's degree in Industrial Engineering (preferably specialising in Electricity), Master's degree in Integration of Renewable Energies in the Electricity System, Master's degree in Energy / Electrical Engineering, or similar (completed before joining the PhD programme in October 2022). Languages: English, knowledge of Spanish is a plus

We Offer: Annual full-time pre-doctoral contract for the completion of the research project and the doctoral thesis. Renewable up to a maximum of 4 years. The gross salary for the first year is 22,300 € for the year 2022. Title: Protection of AC and DC power systems.

Directors: Pablo Eguia and Marene Larruskain.

Description of work: Within the research line "Power System Protection" of the GISEL research group (www.ehu.eus/gisel), several research projects are being developed regarding protection of AC and DC power systems. The candidate will join the Power System real time simulation laboratory to collaborate in the group's research projects on the protection of power systems in AC and DC. The work consists of the development of simulation models of AC and DC electrical systems in real time, in the OPAL and Typhoon HIL platforms, for testing and validating protection systems in hardware-in-theloop configuration. Research will also be done on the digitalization of the protection system for substations and distribution transformer centres, based on generic hardware platforms and containerized software.

Requirements: Master's degree in Industrial Engineering (preferably specialising in Electricity), Master's degree in Integration of Renewable Energies in the Electricity System, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or similar (completed before joining the PhD programme in October 2022).

Languages: English, knowledge of Spanish is a plus

We Offer: full-time research contract through INVESTIGO program grant (specific conditions apply). The gross salary for the first year is 2,080,75 €/month for the year 2022, with 1 year renewal. Possibility of two additional years through pre-doctoral Scholarship funded by GISEL research group.
