Presentation

Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (UPV/EHU, 2000) and PhD in Demography (UAB, 2009). I have worked at the Center d'Estudis Demogràfics in Barcelona and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock (Germany). In this last research center, I worked both within the Population Europe network and within the Laboratory of Demographic Data (Data Lab) curating, updating, and constructing demographic databases and metadata. I still do PR work for the Data Lab.

Since 2023 I work as a professor at the Faculty of Education and Sports (teaching) of Vitoria-Gasteiz and I am a member of the OPIK research group of the Department of Sociology and Social Work of the UPV/EHU.

In recent years my research work has focused on the creation and administration of the database for the study of the seasonality of mortality and fertility (Short-Term Mortality Fluctuations & Short-Term Fertility Fluctuations data series) as well as the study of excess mortality. Currently, one of my main focuses of interest is the dissemination and effective scientific communication of knowledge and research results among different audiences.
