Trees of Middle-earth

Thomas Örn Karlsson started out as a nature photographer capturing northern landscapes. He has been involved in several environmental projects for different organisations, most recently a campaign to protect Swedish rivers. Artistically, he has swayed towards the fields of fantasy, science fiction and horror, with exhibitions in New York, Stockholm, and Lisbon. Thomas works as an ambassador for Olympus and travels the world in search of inspiration for future books. He is currently working on a novel set in the borderland between the virtual reality and the physical world, which will be published on Skymning Förlag in 2019.

Martin Simonson is the author of the monographs The Lord of the Rings and the Western Narrative Tradition (Walking Tree Publishers, 2008), and El Oeste Recuperado: La literatura del pasado y la construcción de personajes en «El Señor de los Anillos» (Peter Lang, 2018). He has translated several works by J.R.R. Tolkien into Spanish, among others Beowulf (2014), The Story of Kullervo (2015), Beren and Lúthien (2018), and The Fall of Gondolin (2019).

This exhibition shows pictures of forest scenes from different parts of Europe, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. The photographs, which will be published in the book “The Middle-earth Divide” in 2020, are accompanied by texts from the same book, written by Martin Simonson.
