Vegetable proteins are renewable and abundant raw materials, easily obtainable from agroindustrial sub-products and with potential properties for applications in the field of wrapping and packaging for their ability to form films with good barrier properties under dry conditions. Moreover, being biodegradable, they provide important advantages from the environmental and economic point of view. Taking into account these characteristics, the BIOMAT research team from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)'s Polytechnic University School in the city of Donostia-San Sebastian has manufactured an innovative film for food wrapping, capable of substituting conventional films and based on renewable resources and 100% biodegradable/compostable.
