GENERAL ANIMAL UNIT SERVICE ALAVA SERVICE

  • Any research that requires the use of animals for experimentation. Also includes the use of animals for teaching purposes.
  • Animal experimentation may be carried out at premises set aside for such purpose at the Animal Unit itself.
  • The Animal Unit at the Alava Campus is equipped to stall only large and small rodents.
  • This Animal Unit has been officially fitted out as a User establishment, therefore being adapted to the activities that regulate this type of Animal Unit.
  • The Animal Unit provides a service to all researchers from the UPV/EHU who need to use laboratory animals for their experimental and/or teaching work, in addition to other researchers from public or private centres, companies and institutions that may require this. 
  • The Animal Unit at the Alava Campus will render its services as described above in order to lend support to basic and applied research and for other scientific purposes in the fields of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Areas.
  • The Animal Unit at the Alava Campus will collaborate with the teaching aims set out by the University.
  • Animals have hitherto been used essentially for teaching purposes in the following areas of knowledge or subjects: Anatomy, Cellular Biology and Morphological Science, Bromatology, Pharmacology, Basic Principles and Experimental Techniques, Immunology, Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Technology and Parasitology.
