BioRes

The Research group on Bioengineering and Resuscitation (BioRes) is currently composed of 7 researchers, three full-time teachers of the UPV/EHU and four pHD students. We are all telecommunication engineers, and our research is focused towards the application of Digital Signal Processing techniques to biomedical signals. In the last years our main research line has been related to treatment of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. We develop algorithms for the automatic processing of biomedical signals (ECG, Impedance, EtCO2, PPG, cerebral oximetry, …) recorded by monitor/defibrillators. Our main specific topics have been:

  • Algorithms to classify arrhythmias, primarily shock/no-shock decision algorithms in defibrillators.
  • Monitoring the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Detection and prediction of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC)
  • Continuous automatic annotation of cardiac arrest episodes.
