Doctoral Program in Control Engineering, Automation and Robotics

The aim of the Doctoral Program in Control Engineering, Automation and Robotics at the UPV/EHU, taught in Bilbao at the Faculty of Engineering, is to provide advanced training for future researchers in the area of Control Engineering to meet the need for applied research. It mainly oriented towards industrial application and the short to mid-term transfer of results to the productive fabric of the area.

Control Engineering and Automation is a transversal discipline, as a result of which it is appropriate for many fields of application. The control systems are embedded into all kinds of devices, from the cruise control system of an aircraft to manufacturing, assembly and production line systems, biomedical systems, renewable energy production systems and robotic systems, by way of a few examples. The aim is to provide, in a transparent and efficient manner, safe functioning, real-time behavior, dynamic and static high performances and, in short, an overall benefit to all these systems from various perspectives: energy saving, sustainable development, reduced pollution, robustness, etc.

In this sense, the program aims to meet the demand for doctoral studies in the area and covers the lines of research of the research groups that comprise it. More specifically, those dedicated to control and automation and those related to the information and communication technologies. The development of the information and communication technologies, together with the need for more efficient systems of energy use, are two of the greatest challenges facing current-day society and both subjects are of great interest to the industrial and social environment.
