The 2005 Joint Conference on Information Sciences (JCIS) is the eighth gathering in an ongoing series of jointly held conferences
dedicated to developing emerging science and technology related to intelligent machinery and systems. For more than a decade the conference has encouraged information dissemination and the exchange of ideas among
researchers in the diverse yet interconnected fields of information sciences. The 8th JCIS is being held at the Salt Lake City Marriott City Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, July 21-26, 2005 and is led by Conference
