Book exhibition to commemorate the International Year of Crystallography

[.en] The United Nations proclaimed 2014 as the International Year of Crystallography (IYCr2014) and requested that UNESCO and the International Union of Crystallography support and coordinate commemoration activities throughout the Year. 2014 marks the centennial of the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Physics to Max von Laue for his discovery of the diffraction of x-Rays by crystals. In addition, in this year the 400th anniversary of Kepler’s observation of the symmetrical form of ice crystals (which began the wider study of the symmetry of materials) is commemorated. The IYCr2014 commemoration highlights the role of the science of crystallography in the understanding of our material world and emphasizes it as a key science for the development of humanity.

The Central Library at the Campus of Gipuzkoa will contribute to this celebration by exhibiting a selection of books about crystallography from its collection. In addition to the exhibition some videos on Crystallography and on the IYCr2014 will be shown too. The display will be held at the Library (Ground Floor) until the 21st of March.
