MethodologyToggle Navigation

During each exercise development we can distinguish different types of activities to work during the in-person classes:

1 Prefaces: classes addressed to fix the main ideas of the project based on the explanation of architectural examples.

2 The workshop: is the main activity of the subject, which is done by personal work. The review of the design development will be made in general on the desk, and are mainly addressed to a single student.

3. Team work: Studio drawings and renderings of the site will be done by a limited group. Additionally the days devoted to the “taller integrado” (integrated workshop) shared with other subjects, will be made in groups and all of the issues will be related to the second exercise of the academic year.

4 Public discussion: the public review will be performed on the blackboard or by beamer on the screen. It is devoted to fix general concepts and, at a time, broadcast to the whole of the students explanations and suggestions about the project.

5 Final public presentation: All the projects will be presented in public to the classmates and the jury. By doing this, the different proposals will be shared by all the students, opening the possibility of a debate.

6. Virtual tuition: whenever live tuition is not available it will be held through blackboard collaborate app within the virtual classroom. Previously, this situation will be announced through the same platform.

On the non-in-person class hours, mainly at the beginning of the work, each student will work in groups, searching for documentation and drawing the site of the project. Later on, each student will develop the design by him-herself, drawing sketches up to the final architectural plans, renderings and model to be submitted at the end of the academic period. These materials will be discussed in class.

Assessment systemsToggle Navigation

The continuous appraisal is done over the projects developed during the term, which mean the engagement of the student to conclude and complete delivery of all the works to be eventually graded. If any of the exercises is not delivered or unfinished, the mark will be: Not Delivered. In the case of a submission out of time, the last option to submit the exercise will be the examination date of the term.

For the final appraisal, attendance will be taken into account, as well as the workshop review, due to the practical role of the subject. The attendance, the review and edit of the projects, are esteemed necessary to get a right learning of the subject, and subsequently the final grade.

For the continuous appraisal, the students progress will be take into account, furthermore, the quality of the main exercise of the term, which percentage account into the final mark is seminal.

Minimum Mark: the student need a minimum final mark of 5, of a total of 10 points; to pass the academic year/term. Justified exceptions only admitted by the Professor´s permission: The student who could not afford to deliver the work on time, because a justified cause, will have an extra, but limited, date to deliver his work, once finished the term. This date will coincide with the date to review the marks.

APPRAISAL SYSTEM

Continuous Appraisal System

The evaluation will be done over the individual and the team work. It will be taken into account the following criteria;

-first, the correspondence of the proposal with the requirements of the exercise,

-second, the level of development and definition of the work,

-and third, the quality of the graphics and drawings.

The ability of the student to improve the design during the term will also be taken into account.

The evaluation of the second part of the term is higher, due to the more difficulty of the projects and targets, and also because of the longer duration.

Assessment percentages: Personal work 85%, Team work 15%

Alternative Final Assessment system:

Each student will be able to shift from the continuous assessment system to a final exam model under a justified agenda consisting of:

1 Previous written notification of relinquishing the regular system procedure before the 9th week included, counted from the beginning of the semester according to the academic schedule of the School.

2 Presentation of the proposed exercises during the course before the examination day. This presentation will consist on a DIN A1 complete layout of the exercise, and will be defended orally before the jury or professor assigned.

3 Taking an examination on the day, place and time determined by the School for the final exam. This is a mandatory and personal aptitude test that will be held at the school facilities.

Virtual Assesment.

Whenever live tuition is not available, in case of any health emergency, the same live tuition assesment criteria to be applied

Compulsory materialsToggle Navigation

Alongside the general statement of the term, -and the different statements of each particular exercise-, the student will be given sufficient information about the context of the site of the project, which means; historical plans, current plans and general info, monuments plans and cross sections, new and antique pictures or drawings of the site, etc., in order to help the student to understand the situation and evolution of the urban-architectural problem. Besides, personal or group research info is recommended in order to better understand the site and context, and support the final proposal.
