Doctoral Programme in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Engineering and Architecture

National Interuniversity

Introduction

This is an Interuniversity Doctoral Programme involving the University of the Basque Country UPV / EHU, the University of Vigo and the University of Burgos. It originates from the Interuniversity Thermal Engineering Programme of these Universities, which has been offered for 10 years now, and which obtained the Mention of Excellence in 2011.

LINES OF RESEARCH

On the one hand there are the lines of research that relate to energy efficiency and sustainability in industry and transport. The third line relates to the field of construction.

In the lines of research of energy efficiency, thermal modelling, mechanical and renewable energies, issues such as the potential of renewable energies, biomass combustion modelling, biomass boiler design, simulation of combustion processes by CFD, etc. are addressed.

A second line of research is the thermodynamic properties of fluids of industrial interest using high precision techniques. In this line, new fluids that are of major industrial interest, such as liquid, ionic and nanofluid electrolytes are investigated.

The third line relates to the world of building, and covers aspects relating to energy efficiency and the environment in building. Research activities in the scope of this line are: experimentation and modelling of heat transfer in building components, energy rehabilitation of buildings, methodological development of LCA applied to buildings, etc.

STAYS IN FOREIGN CENTRES

Students who enrol in the Programme shall stay in one of the many centres with which we hold a number of collaborations. Among others: Glasgow Caledonia University, Laboratoire d¿Étude des Phénomènes de Transfert Appliqués au Bâtiment, Reutlingen Research Institute (Germany), Department of Energy of the Polytechnic University of Milan, etc.
