Doctoral Programme in Language Analysis and Processing



The main objective of this doctoral program is to provide training in lines of research related to linguistic technology, in terms of both the automatic processing of spoken and written language and also in its linguistic aspects.

The doctoral program on language analysis and processing falls within the area of language technologies. This area has undergone a major expansion worldwide in recent years, especially since the increase in popularity of applications such as machine translation (, voice communication with smart phones (Apple) and Google's incorporation of the above technology to improve their search results. During this period, speech processing, machine translation and the searching and classification of documents have managed to enter the group of applications of everyday use for regular users of communication technologies. A significant improvement has also been achieved in the interaction between the devices and the people who use them.

This doctoral program aims to prepare researchers to be able to meet these new technological challenges.

The Master's Degree which provides direct access to this doctoral program has been recognized as an Erasmus Mundus Master's Program in Language and Communication Technologies (EMMCLT) for 2013-2017, indicating that it is an area in which there is particular interest at a European level.

The doctoral students trained on this program acquire knowledge and skills to conduct projects in the following lines of R+D+i:

- Storage and retrieval of information

- Development of techniques based on language engineering and linguistic resources.

- Functionalities to support word processing within the context of office automation and translation

- Applied linguistics

- Speech technologies

- Digital comprehension

- Semantics, logic and reasoning

Qualification level

This qualification is recognised at level 4 in the Spanish Framework of Higher Education Qualifications (MECES) and corresponds to level 8 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), according to Royal Decree 22/2015 of 23rd January 2015 (BOE Spanish Official Gazette 07/02/2015).
