The next edition of the Cross-border Doctorials jointly organised by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA) will be held near the Monastery of Arantzazu in Oñati from 14 through 18 October, according to the agreement in the meeting held among representatives from both universities on 4 March.

Also in attendance on behalf of the UPV/EHU were the director of the Doctoral School of the UPV/EHU, Miren Cajaraville, deputy director Alvaro Arrizabalaga, professor Maria Saiz and administrative staff. From the UPPA, Anna Chrostowska, director of the Doctoral School of Exact and Applied Sciences, Jean-Yves Casanova, director of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Humanities and administrative staff were also in attendance.

For the third straight year, the UPV/EHU and the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour are organising this cross-border activity, aimed at PhD students working on their doctoral theses at either University. A new feature in this edition is the extension of the invitation to four PhD students from the University of Bordeaux, with whom the UPV/EHU has close partnerships.

For the first time, after two prior editions held in France, the venue chosen for the 2013 Doctorials is Arantzazu Gandiaga, a conference and meeting centre located in the privileged enclave in Arantzazu (Oñati, Gipuzkoa), in the Aratz-Aitzgorri Natural Park and next to the Sanctuary of Arantzazu, a cultural, religious and artistic landmark.

The pre-registration period is set to open in May.
