11.02.2013

On February 13 and 14, a meeting will be held by those in charge of the Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme in Marine Environment and Resources (MER) at the Plentzia Marine Station, which will kick-off the selection process for awarding Erasmus Mundus Scholarships, among other matters. Academic members of the MER Joint Programme Board from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), University of Southampton, University of Bordeaux 1, University of Liège and AZTI-Tecnalia, as well as administrative staff are scheduled to take part in the meeting.

Candidates selected in this first edition of the Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme in MER will begin their studies at the new Plentzia Marine Station research centre (headquarters of the Master's and Doctorates of "Marine Environment and Resources" and "Environmental Pollution and Toxicology ") in the coming academic year 2013-2014, but since the 2006-2007 academic year, the MER has been offered by the University of the Basque Country in coordination with the Université de Bordeaux 1 and the University of Southampton.

For the first time, the UPV/EHU now receives the prestigious European label as coordinating member of the Erasmus Mundus European Master in Marine Environment and Resources (MER). Thanks to Erasmus Mundus funding, 18 students will benefit from scholarships awarded by the European Commission. These scholarships cover travel expenses, accommodation, registration fees, insurance and an allowance for monthly expenses. The application process for these scholarships concluded on January 31, and the list of shortlisted candidates will be published in early March 2013. In May 2013, students selected will receive official notification of the results from Erasmus Mundus Agency.

To coincide with the MER Joint Programme Board meeting, a ceremony to unveil an Erasmus Mundus plaque awarded by the EU's Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) will take place at the Plentzia Marine Station on February 13 at 15:30. Francisco Javier Gil Goikuria, Vice-Rector of Teaching and Research staff and Miren P. Cajaraville Bereziartua, Director of Master and Doctoral School will participate in the ceremony.
