Estibaliz Aberasturi-Apraiz holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts (1994) and a PhD in Educational Sciences with specialization in Pedagogy (2009) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She joined the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Anthropology in San Sebastián in 1995, where she is full professor and a researcher. Her teaching and research focus primarily on teacher training, innovation in teaching, and research and learning based on visual arts in educational contexts. She is currently involved in the R&D project “How early childhood and elementary school teachers learn: implications for education and challenges in facing social change” (EDU2015-70912-C2-2-R), which integrates arts-based research methods. She is author of national and international publications, including “Post-modern reality shock: Beginning teachers as sojourners in communities of practice”.
