Graduate and Doctor in Biological Sciences by the UPV/EHU, he received the Extraordinary Prize of doctoral thesis (1995). He is Professor in the Department of Physiology at the UPV/EHU. He teaches in the Degree of Medicine and several postgraduate courses at the UPV/EHU and the University of Valencia (as an external lecturer). He has been course-coordinator for the Degree in Medicine, and since 2017 has held the position of Vice-Dean of Teaching Planning and Human Resources at the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, UPV/EHU. He has 4 Sexenios of research recognized by CNEAI. He has extensive experience in the direction of TFG, TFM and Doctoral Theses, and as Principal Investigator of research projects at the local, regional and national levels. He has directed 7 doctoral theses (1 with European mention and 2 with international mention) and is directing a thesis in co-tutorship with the University of Bordeaux.
He participates in the consolidated group “Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress research Team, FROST” that researches in the field of free radicals and lipidology in human physiopathology. He is interested in the determination of oxidative stress biomarkers in vivo, in various aspects of human infertility and in the antitumor response to phytochemicals.
