Chemical Sciences Bachelor, UPV/EHU, 1977; Extraordinary Degree Award; Chemical Sciences PhD, UPV/EHU 1982; Extraordinary PhD Award. In 1984 he obtained a position as Senior Lecturer and in 1993 he was appointed Professor of the University. Visiting Professor at the University of Western Ontario (Canada) in 1990-91. Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the UPV/EHU for 3 terms and responsible for the Doctorate Programs of Chemical Engineering for 6 biennia. Likewise, he has been Head of the Official Master's Degree in Chemical Processes and Sustainable Development Engineering (2006-2007). He currently teaches undergraduate and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering at the UPV/EHU.

Research work on issues related, mainly, to catalytic cracking and hydrocracking of both refinery streams (heavy gas oils) and residual products, such as plastics, pyrolysis oil from tires, bio-oil, etc.

Author of more than 160 papers indexed in the JCR and more than 300 congress communications, he has participated as a principal researcher or collaborator in more than 50 competitive research projects and contracts, and has supervised 14 doctoral theses. 6 six-year periods positively evaluated by the Spanish CNEAI.

Secretary and member of the Advisory Committees (Chemistry, Engineering and Architecture) for the Spanish CNEAI (2004-2006). Member of the Accreditation Committee for Access to the Senior Lecturers Status, section of Engineering and Architecture (ANECA, 2012-2015).
