Loreta de Stasio graduated (1989) and obtaneid a PhD (1997) in “Theory of Language and Sign Science”, at the University of Bari, in Italy. She studied in Moscow and London. She developed at the UPV two postdoctoral projects with scholarships from the Basque Government and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Spain.

She has been teaching Italian Philology since 2000 at the University of the Basque Country, in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Before she taught at the University San Pio V, in Rome, Italy, and in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of the University of the Basque Country, in Bilbao (Leioa). She directed 7 doctoral theses and is still directing 6 more.

She translated many articles and books into Italian. She is the author of essays and articles on theatre semiotics, communication and translation (about 120), and books (4) on Italian and comparative literature. She lectured at about 130 international congresses in the US, Mexico, Venezuela, Russia and throughout all Europe, although especially in Spain and Italy. She has been visiting professor at the Università of Perugia, Rome La Sapienza, Foggia, Rome Tor Vergata, Bari, Lecce. She was recognized excelences in investigation by the CNEAI 5 times. She has participated in 11 research projects, being Principal Investigator in 4 of them. Her research lines focus on Italian and comparative literature, theatre semiotics, opera librettos, communication and translation, literary criticism.
