Industrial Engineer (Electrical, 1987).Course of Specialist in Systems Engineering and Process Control: Electronics, Automation and Industrial Computing (1987) and PhD in Engineering (2001) by the UPV / EHU. He has worked in various companies occupying positions related to the management of Communication and Information Systems and R&D in Telecommunications.
Since 1992, he has combined his professional activities with those of a part-time associate professor, becoming a full time associate profesor in 1994. Professor since 2019. He was elected as the first director of the Communications Engineering Department (2012-2016) and appointed as member of the Advisory Board of the Basque Agency for Data Protection since its foundation in 2004, occupying its presidency in 2010 and 2018. Co-founder of the Telematics Engineering Group -GIT- (1995-2004) and the Telematics Engineering Research Group -I2T- (2004), recognized by the Basque Government as a group A which is heading. He has directed 6 doctoral theses and co-directed another two, four of them European and one of which received a PhD Extraordinary Prize. He has participated in more than 96 research projects (of which 9 are European), of which he has directed more than 70. He is co-author of a patent, 60 publications in journals and more than 150 publications in conferences. He is promoter and scientific director of the Keynetic spin-off dedicated to cybersecurity. Other interests are SDN, NFV, 5G and Industry 4.0
