J.J. Gutierrez received the M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering (1996) and the Ph.D. degree (2009) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he works as an Associate Professor since 2003.
He was secretary of the Department of Electronics and Communication, as well as of the Department of Communications Engineering. Since 2016 he is the director of the Department of Communications Engineering.
He conducts his research work as a member of the Signal and Communications research group, recognized as group A by the Basque Government. The main research activity is focused on low-frequency signal processing, in electrical and biomedical engineering fields. He has supervised 3 PhD Thesis and has participated in more than 30 research projects. He is the author of more than 43 publications in indexed journals, several book chapters and more than 50 contributions to international conferences. Since 2010 he participates in different committees of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an expert on the measurement of low frequency disturbances.
His research is focused on the Digital Processing of Biomedical Signals applied to the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as to the electrical signal processing for the evaluation of the power quality.
