Koldo Basterretxea is an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao, Department of Electronics Technology, at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He received the Licenciado degree in Physics (MSc’94), Master in Electronics and Control (MEng’95) and the PhD degree in Physics (PhD’02) from the UPV/EHU. At present, he is the head of the Master in Advanced Electronic Systems.

Dr. Basterretxea develops his research activity at the Digital Electronics Design Group (www.ehu.eus/es/web/gded), and his research interests include the digital design of adaptive and autonomous systems on reconfigurable hardware (FPGA/PSoC), design of embedded neural processors for machine learning applications at the edge, hardware acceleration of numerical optimization algorithms for optimal control, and applied soft computing. His present research activity focuses on the design of machine learning processors for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and, particularly, on the development of real-time hyperspectral image processors for image segmentation.

During his career, he has participated in more than 20 research-projects and has published 44 research papers. He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Edinburgh (2009 and 2012), and has received the recognition of three periods of six years on research form the CNAI.
