She obtained the Telecommunications Engineering degree from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 1996, and after two years working in a private company she returned to the UPV/EHU to carry out her PhD studies in Information Technology. She completed her PhD in 2003. Since 2000, she works at the UPV/EHU first as associate lecturer and from 2010 as lecturer. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to telecommunication engineering and speech technologies.

She has participated in more than 30 research projects funded in public calls, both national and international and has been the lead researcher in several of them. She has actively contributed to the development of speech analysis and synthesis technologies with emphasis on the study of prosody and the improvement of the expressiveness and naturalness of synthetic speech. She has contributed in the production of various oral resources and publicly available software tools. She has participated in several national and international evaluation campaigns for speech synthesis, speaker diarisation and audio segmentation, with excellent results.

She has published more than 100 scientific articles in the most relevant journals and conferences in her field. She also works as a reviewer in the main magazines and conferences of the area.
