My research interests center around the study of marine invertebrates. As a result, I am taxonomic editor of the phylum Sipuncula in the prestigious database named WORMS (World Register of Marine Species) since the year 2008 (see: www.marinespecies.org). Moreover, I am also consultant of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. We have published the 'Official List of All Marine Species recorded in the Spanish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)'. Finally, I have also other relevant interests in the zoological scientific research, such as, the structure and composition of marine communities, the use of marine species as pollution indicators, the global distribution of marine invertebrates, the Antarctic Marine Biodiversity, and the Biology of the Deep Ocean. In the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), I am currently working as Full Professor of Zoology since 1999 and co-operating in the teaching of Zoology since 1983. I am also a member of the Marine Benthos Scientific Team (see: www.ehu.eus/es/web/bentos/taldekideak). The Spanish Ministry of Science and Education recognized a total of 5 'six-years research periods' (30 uninterrupted years from 1989 to 2018) and additionally 1 'six-year period of Transfer of Knowledge and Innovation' approved by the CNEAI (Spanish National Commission for Research Evaluation).
