Gorka Prieto Agujeta is a professor at the department of Communications Engineering of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He was graduated as a Telecommunications Engineer in 2002 and obtained his PhD in 2006, both at the UPV/EHU. In 2012 he was also graduated in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UPV/EHU.

He started his research in 2001 within the Radiocommunications and Signal Processing Group (TSR) of the UPV/EHU. His research within this group was related to the new digital audio and video broadcasting systems, resulting into a number of international publications and collaborations with the ITU and the international DRM consortium. He also developed a professional DVB-T/H receiver in commercial exploitation and led the development of a DVB-T2 software prototype.

In 2011 he started an interdisciplinary collaboration with different biosciences-related research groups of the UPV/EHU, which constitutes his current research line. In this collaboration he applies his programming and signal processing knowledge to carry out studies on bioinformatics. Within the Proteomics group he participates in the ProteoRed platform, where he develops inference and statistics algorithms for protein identification using mass spectrometry. He also collaborates with the cancer molecular biology group for protein motif prediction and analysis of how they are disrupted by mutations.
