Yury Rakovich is a Research Professor at the “Polímeros y Materiales Avanzados: Física, Química y Tecnología”, the University of Basque Country and Ikerbasque Professor. The main area of research is nanophotonics, with emphasis on spectroscopy and photonic applications of functional units at micro and nanoscale, including semiconductor and plasmon nanostructures and organic/inorganic hybrid nano systems. The main scientific-technical achievements are: - Contribution to research on thermal conversion of photon energy by semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots) for the development of laser systems; - The development of a new line of research on optical properties of hybrid systems composed of photonic molecules and quantum dots; The development of a novel system of coupled microcavities with directional emission and the investigation of the phenomenon of photonic nano-jets and the interaction between the photonic states of microcavity and plasmonic nanoparticles; - The investigation of spontaneous emission enhancement and acceleration of resonance energy transfer between quantum dots in proximity to metallic nanoparticles; - Contribution on plasmon-exciton coupling in hybrid systems composed of plasmon nanoparticles and organic molecule J-aggregates as a result of strong optical coupling; - Demonstration for the first time of the Rabi splitting optical effect in the photoluminescence spectra of the hybrid system of plasmonic nanorods and organic J-aggregates.
