Harkaitz Zubiri-Esnaola has got a degree and a phd in Sociology, a degree in English Philology, a diploma in Teaching, and a diploma in Advance Studies. He started teaching in 1999. He worked in Second, First and Vocational Education for several years. He obtained a Collaboration grant and then a Pre-Doctoral grant from the Basque Government. He started teaching at the UPV/EHU in 2007.
Currently he is an associate professor at the Faculty of Education, Philosophy and Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country in the field of Initial Teacher Training, specialised in anguage teaching and learning. He was the coordinator for the Pre-Primary Education degree in the academic year 2017-2018 and the coordinator for the Primary Education degree in the academic year 2018-2019. He is a member of the Language and Literature Didactics department.
His research focuses on actions for overcoming inequality in education, mainly in language learning; cultural habits and cultural policies; and gender violence and masculinities. He has published about these topics in national and international journals. He is also the author of several books and book chapters.
