Profile for admission
The entry profile required for access to this program is as follows:
- A good knowledge of the field of Chemistry at an advanced level; being familiar with the latest theories, interpretations, methods and techniques.
- The ability to follow and critically interpret the latest developments in the theory and practice of Chemistry as a discipline, as well as related multidisciplinary fields.
- The ability to analyse, discuss and draw conclusions from the data obtained in laboratory experiments, relating them to the appropriate theories and using primary bibliographical sources.
- Skills for the study and autonomous learning of a chemical material, or a related one, in traditional or emerging sciences.
- Showing originality and creativity with regard to the handling of Chemistry and related disciplines.
- Having expertise, skills and aptitudes allowing incorporation into one of the lines of research of the doctorate.
- a B1 level of English

La Comisión Académica evaluará la formación académica previa del candidato o candidata, comprobando que esta se ajusta al perfil de ingreso, de acuerdo a lo establecido en los criterios de admisión: 1. Adecuación de la formación realizada en el Máster: 40 puntosSe valorará el programa formativo cursado. Se valorará la formación en los diferentes aspectos teóricos y prácticos de la síntesis química a nivel avanzado, y técnicas de determinación estructural. 2. Expediente académico del Grado (o licenciatura) y el Máster: 25 puntosSe valorará el expediente de la titulación de Grado (15 puntos) y la del Máster (10 puntos). 3. Formación adicional en el ámbito de la Química : 10 puntosSe valorará la realización de cursos en el ámbito de la Química, especialmente en el ámbito de la Síntesis, realizados en Universidades o centros de investigación. Así mismo, se valorará la experiencia investigadora previa, la realización de prácticas en empresa, colaboraciones en laboratorios de investigación universitarios, etc. 4. Manejo de técnicas instrumentales en el ámbito de la química: 10 puntos Se valorará el conocimiento y manejo de técnicas instrumentales como espectroscopía RMN, espectrometría de Masas, técnicas cromatográficas, manejo de reactivos químicos, etc. 5. Publicaciones y comunicaciones científicas: 10 puntosSe valorará la publicación de artículos en revistas indexadas en el ámbito de la Química, así como comunicaciones a congresos.6. Otros méritos: 5 puntosSe valorará el conocimiento de idiomas (inglés al menos a un nivel B1), manejo de software de uso en Química, u otra formación.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
