Profile for admission
This Doctoral Programme is particularly suitable for students who have completed their studies at Master’s level in subjects related to chemistry, biomass, nanoscience, and materials science.
Students on the course must be capable of understanding oral presentations and scientific written works in the English language.
Students with other related qualifications in the field of engineering, environmental engineering, or equivalent, and mechanical engineering or equivalent, would also be a good fit for the programme. Depending on the skills gained during the candidate’s degree, Master’s, or equivalent studies, the Doctoral Academic Committee will decide the training units each student admitted to the course needs to complete (based on their entry profile). Students will, accordingly, study between 4.5 and 9 ECTS units of subjects offered by UPV/EHU official Master’s programmes in the area of engineering and experimental sciences. This is outlined in the section on complementary training.
Students who have not studied a Master¿s related to those outlined in the recommended entry profile must study a minimum of 4.5 and a maximum of 9 ECTS credits in subjects from official Master¿s programmes offered by UPV/EHU in the area of engineering and experimental sciences. -Structure/property relationships and thermodynamics/kinetics in macromolecules / mechanics of polymeric and composite materials-Advanced polymer synthesis-Structure and properties of polymeric materials-Science and technology of cellulosic materials and their derivatives-Nanomaterials and nanotechnology-From nanoscience to nanotechnology-Composite materials and nanostructures-Instrumental techniques in materials engineering

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
