Profile for admission
You are required to have a Degree or similar qualification in Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy. As an exception, other degree qualifications in health sciences may be accepted if candidates have an official master’s degree.
The largest percentage of places will be allocated to people with a place at any of the five university hospitals of Araba/Álava, Basurto, Cruces, Galdakao-Usansolo and Donostia-San Sebastián.
De acuerdo con lo establecido en el artículo 7 del RD 99/2011, de 28 de enero, por el que se regulan las enseñanzas oficiales de doctorado, el programa de doctorado podrá incluir la exigencia de complementos de formación específicos.Este programa no establece complementos de formación específicos, sin embargo, considerando que al mismo pueden acceder graduados o graduadas correspondientes a títulos de grado o superior, de al menos 300 ECTS, cuyos estudios pueden no haber incluido contenidos específicos de formación en investigación, la Comisión Académica del programa decidirá para cada estudiante admitido, en función del perfil de ingreso, la necesidad o no de adquirir esta formación en investigación. La formación se adquirirá mediante la realización de 12 créditos ECTS repartidas en dos asignaturas: introducción a la investigación y proyecto de investigación. A continuación se detalla la información relativa a cada una:Asignatura: Introducción a la Investigación Biomédica 6 ECTSAsignatura: Proyecto Investigación 6 ECTS
1. Curriculum vitae (85%) compuesto por los siguientes apartados: a) expediente academico (25%)b) experiencia laboral o profesional: se valorará preferentemente experiencia profesional como médico interno residente o especialista (55%).c) experiencia investigadora y publicaciones (5%).d) becas y ayudas a la formación concedidas (10%)e) estancias en el extranjero, en centros internacionales de reconocido prestigio (5%)2. Carta de motivación (5%): se valorará el interés y el compromiso manifestado por el candidato o candidata en la carta de motivación3. Cartas de referencia (10%): se valorará la coherencia de las actividades de investigación del candidato o candidata con las líneas de investigación del programa de doctorado

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
