Pre-registration

Who needs to pre-register for a Master's Degree course?

Any student wishing to start a Master's Degree during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Students who pre-registered during the 2018-2019 academic year for a Master's Degree requiring 90 or 120 ECTS credits, and who will be entering the second year of their degree in 2019-2020, do not need to pre-register.

 

What documents do I need to present with my grant application, in relation to my pre-registration?

A photocopy of the pre-registration slip. A photocopy of your formal acceptance onto the course by the Academic Commission of the Master's Degree in question. A photocopy of your letter of ratification and commitment to enrol on the Master's Degree course.

If the Academic Commission of the Master's Degree in question has not reached a decision regarding your acceptance onto the course prior to the end of the deadline for application submission, you only need to present a photocopy of the pre-registration slip. The Grants Department will verify the acceptance and ratification of any student in this situation.

 

Can I submit a grant application for more than one Master's Degree course?

No. Each student is permitted to apply for this grant for a single Master's course only.

 

If I change to a different Master's course after submitting my grant application, can I change my application so that it refers to the Master's course on which I now intend to enrol?

Yes. Simply send an email to the following address: convocatoriasyayudas@ehu.eus indicating the corresponding change.

 

Qualifications

How can I prove that I have completed the undergraduate degree that provides access to the Master's course before the application submission deadline?

Final-year undergraduate students may apply for grants, although conferral will be subject to their having earned their degree by the end of the enrolment deadline.

 

I will not be able to complete my undergraduate degree until September. Can I submit my grant application now?

Yes.

 

Average grade

What average grade do I need in the undergraduate degree that provides access to the Master's?

In order to be eligible for a grant corresponding either to an official year-long Master’s course or to the first year of a two-year Master’s degree, applicants must have obtained an average grade of at least 6.5 in the undergraduate degree providing access to the Master’s. Please note that average grades from Engineering and Architecture degrees will be multiplied by a coefficient of 1.17.

Do I have to present my Curriculum Vitae (Document 2)?

Yes. Please bear in mind, however, that only those merits supported by official documents or certificates shall be taken into consideration.

 

Do I have to present a sworn statement attesting to the fact that I have no other university Master’s Degree?

Yes. Every grant applicant must present a sworn statement attesting to this fact (Document 3).

 

If I have a Basque language qualification, does this count?

No, because Basque is one of the official languages of the Autonomous Region of the Basque Country.

 

Do I have to present my Personal Academic Certificate if I earned my degree at the University of the Basque Country after 1988?

No. Only students who earned the degree which provides access to the Master's in another Spanish university must present this certificate.

 

Under what circumstances must I present the Certificate of Equivalence for Average Grades, issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport?

This certificate is only required if the applicant has studied abroad.

Submission of applications

Can I submit my application by e-mail?

No. You should either submit your application by postal mail or hand it in, in person, at one of the University of the Basque Country Registers. Do I need to go in person to the University of the Basque Country to submit my application?

No. AApplicants may also submit their applications at any post office. If you choose this option, take the documents in an unsealed envelope and make sure a member of the post office staff stamps the first page of the application form, thus indicating the date upon which it was submitted. Then seal the envelope and send it by post to the following address:  

 

If I live abroad, how can I make sure I submit my application before the 5 July 2019 deadline?

You can send in your application by postal mail. You can also submit your application to one of Spain's diplomatic representatives or consular offices in your country of residence.

Total sum awarded

How much will I receive if I am awarded the grant?

Grants consist of €3,000/year for students resident in the Autonomous Region of the Basque Country and €4,500/year for those resident in other Autonomous Regions of Spain or abroad.

 

Am I eligible for an exemption from paying tuition fees?

 No. This grant does not exempt you from paying the corresponding tuition fees for university academic services.

Assessment criteria

What factors are taken into account during the decision to accept or reject a grant application?

The following criteria are taken into consideration:

  • a) Academic record (up to 90 points).
  • b) Merits stated by the student: other studies, foreign language skills, projects/work carried out by applicants, etc. (up to 10 points).

 

Who assesses applications?

A Commission made up by 5 people:

  • 3 Representatives of the University of the Basque Country's Postgraduate Commission.
  • 2 Representatives of the Management Team of the Master’s and Doctorate School.

Each member belongs to one of the 5 knowledge branches.

Incompatibilities

Can I apply for this grant if I have already earned a Master's Degree?

Applicants who have studied a previous Master's Degree are not eligible for this grant.

 

Can I apply for this grant if I have a job?

No, not unless the following does not apply to your specific circumstances: "The receipt of any other sum paid as a salary or wage that exceeds the official minimum wage." 

 

What happens if I apply for other grants and am awarded some or all of them?

You should read the list of incompatibilities established in the calls for each of the grants applied for, and then choose the best option.

Processing the call for applications

When will the final decision be made?

The final decision regarding grant applications will be made during the first fortnight in November, 2019.

 

How will I be informed when the Final Resolution is published on the website?

You will receive an email with all the details of the Final Resolution.
