Since 1997, lecturers from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) have been teaching official Master’s and PhD degree programmes and supervising PhD theses in Latin American universities, as part of an international relations and collaboration project.
The Latin American Postgraduate Network currently comprises 17 universities from 12 countries, linked through an agreement with the UPV/EHU, and the numbers continue to grow. This network of universities constitutes a true higher-level academic community, within which over a hundred PhD theses have already been presented. Every two years, the Latin American Postgraduate Network stages an International Conference at one of its member universities. This is a magnificent opportunity for partners to meet one another, learn more and exchange information, and is an excellent forum for publicising some of the advances PhD students have made in their research.
After a long and highly productive phase under the directorship of its founder, the UPV/EHU’s recently-retired Professor Francisco Javier Caballero Harriet, the post has now been filled by Vicente Camino Beldarrain.
