Coursera is a platform for Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) that was introduced to the world in April of 2012. Coursera, along with two other platforms, Udacity and edX, form the dominant group promoting and developing the MOOC concept.

Our research team has focused its teaching and research activities of the last decade in the area of technology and e-learning in higher education. The team was able to analyze, experiment with, and implement systematic studies of courses offered in these platforms. The following sections of this chapter describe our analysis of the implications of MOOC platforms and their potential impact in the future model of Universities.
