Alejandro Prieto is a postdoctoral researcher financially supported by the Government of the Basque Country. In January of 2019 he started working at the Institute of Prehistory and Protohistory of the Friederich-Alexander University developing his postdoctoral research together with the Department of Geography, Prehistory and Archaeology of the University of the Basque Country. Alejandro Prieto obtained his bachelor degree on History at the University of Salamanca in 2010. He finished his Master on Quaternary Science at the University of the Basque Country in 2011. In 2018 he finished his PhD, entitle “Procurement and management of quartzite in the Cantabrian Region: The Middle and Upper Palaeolithic in the Deva, Cares and Güeña Valleys”. His thesis points at his main research topic: raw material characterisation, specialised on quartzite, one of most common stone used during Prehistory but one of the less researched rock. In this research line Alejandro combines methodologies from different scientific disciplines, such as Geology, Archaeology and Geography. Geoarchaeological techniques such as thin section petrography, stereomicroscopic definition of rocks, X-Ray fluorescence, digital image processing, techno-typological description of lithic, GIS analysis or statistics.

Despite his investigation is mainly focus on Middle Palaeolithic contexts, he is also interested in other Palaeolithic frameworks, as his CV shows.
