Children's and Young People's Literature and the Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development aims to guarantee that all human beings can develop their own potential with dignity and equality in a healthy environment. To this end, in 2015 the UN approved the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, which has 17 Goals, which include, among others, quality education, gender equality, care for the environment, the reduction of inequalities, or the achievement of peaceful and supportive societies.

On the other hand, literary language is useful to understand reality outside the text. Literature, from an aesthetic and ideological point of view, perpetuates and questions social dialogues, which is why it is crucial for the development of critical awareness in children and young people. As a result, publications of literary works that promote social values (ecology, gender equality, cultural diversity, etc.) and, with them, the didactic use of literary texts, have recently increased.

In this congress we intend to create a discussion forum on the combination of Children's and Young People's Literature (LIJ) and the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS). Education is one of the best ways to achieve changes in our attitudes and habits, and childhood is the best age range to create awareness.
